Birthdays, friends and food. Probably three of the best things ever. My man turned 30 this week so last night we toasted him Italian style with a big group of friends and a whole lot of food.
Thirty is a milestone worth celebrating, so I went all out to make sure the night was extra special. I started by forgoing the old Facebook invite and handcrafted and mailed traditional invitations.
We enjoyed food and fellowship at Mercato, a delicious Italian restaurant known for it’s gourmet cuisine and charming atmosphere. We dined in a private room off to the side of the restaurant that during the day serves as an Italian market and deli. The setting was perfect.
Friends enjoyed a pre-set menu of several incredible courses:
Caprese: Buffalo milk mozzarella with tomatoes, balsamico, & arugula almond pesto
Gigli: Sliced pancetta with radicchio leaves & honey walnut mascarpone
Bistecca: Fiorentina style rib steak with lemons, arugula & olio verdone
Agnello: Balsamic glazed lamb sirloin with roasted onions & green olive tapenade
Funghi: Seasonal mixed mushrooms with olive oil, garlic & peperoncini
Fagiolini: Baby green beans with shallots, white wine & toasted pinoli
No birthday celebration is complete without dessert, so I hired Katie, my girlfriend and author/baker of Baking Vintage, to create a sweet treat for our guests. We indulged in a chocolate raspberry tart and a strawberry, blueberry and kiwi tart. Paired with an Americano, they were divine.
Because we hadn’t quite eaten enough, I baked up some delicious Cinnamon Sugar Biscotti from Joy the Baker and packaged them up using tags ordered from The Paper Place on Etsy. I'm a firm believer that you’re never too old for party favours.
There was plenty of food, wine, laughter and celebrating. But the best part was looking around the table and feeling overwhelming blessed by our amazing friends. Buon compleanno to my amazing husband!
